Privacy Policy

Yes, I'm afraid I've got one of these too. Not that I want to have one in the slightest, but it seems I need to have one.

Cookies

This site makes use of "cookies" for various features, mainly related to the photo galleries. "Cookies" are small pieces of information stored by your web browser, and sent back to this server when you access certain pages.

The files do NOT contain any personal information, nor are they used to track your use of this site or any other site. They are used soley for the storage of preferences such as the use or otherwise of mirror servers, debugging information, and possibly other such things in the future.

If you do not wish to have these cookies stored on your computer, most browsers provide the ability to turn off the use of cookies, normally found under the "security" options somewhere. I do not believe that you should lose any functionality as a result of not accepting cookies, but I do not guarantee this.

Data Protection and Privacy - Photo galleries

I consider this to be a personal website, and therefore I'm fairly certain that I'm not actually covered by the Data Protection Act (it excludes data gathered and processed for personal use), but to be on the safe side...

Web server logs

In common with almost all web servers running on the Internet, the server for this site logs requests made. These logs are stored for traffic analysis and security reasons.

The vast majority of hostnames used on the internet do not represent identifiable individuals, and as such are not covered by the Data Protection Act. I am aware that this is not always the case - for example, many University of Cambridge student machines have hostnames which correspond to student names. Whilst the information to link these hostnames to individuals is not available outside of the Cambridge domain (as is this server), obviously for a large part of the time I am within it. If you do not wish to have your hostname logged by my web server, then the easiest solution is simply to use the University Web Cache - this is probably the case anyway. Anyone with a CUDN-wide private IP will certainly be doing so.

Any statistics based on the web server logs published on the Internet will be agregate statistics only, and will not be linkable to identifiable individuals.
